A pre-party for Saturday’s Lupus Walk For Dilla was thrown Thursday night (10.11.07) at Sputnik. Hosted by DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt of The Beatminerz, all proceeds from the event went towards the J. Dilla Foundation. By midnight it was a full house with plenty of
special guests in the house to pay tribute to a legend.

When you have Black Moon/Beatminerz holding down the turntables for the night you know the music will be money but there is something a little more special playing ‘T.R.O.Y.’ with Pete Rock in the building, ‘DWYCK’ with Premo or Dilla tracks with Ms. Maureen Yancey sitting on the couch.

Motown native DJ House Shoes came on to spin around the 1:00 mark with a real tight hip-hop and soul revue. Extra credit for holding it down on wax which seems to be dying out real quick at parties. Towards the end House Shoes played the crowd some very rare Dilla cuts including one real hot one recorded with Biggie. House Shoes mentioned that this was one of the tracks that led to the East Coast-West Coast beef and Busta Rhymes who was originally on the recording pulled out so that he wouldn’t get pulled into the chaos.

Certainly a good night for a good cause…hopefully Saturday’s walk is just as successful.
