The 3rd Annual Anticon 10 Year Anniversary

The Knitting Factory has always been the most supportive venue in NYC for Anticon Records. The Knit frequently welcomes in Subtle., had several shows with anticon3rdflyerWhy?, and two months ago they brought Themselves and Alias to the main stage. Hopefully when they relocate next year they’ll continue the trend as it’s always a live show with the Anticon crew performing. On 12.18.08 Knitting Factory will house the ‘3rd Annual Anticon 10 Year Anniversary’ show with Themselves, Yoni Wolf of Why?, Buck 65, Sole, Alias, a live set with Odd Nosdam & Jel, Pedestrian, and DJ Thanksgiving Brown. To sum it up: basically the entire roster is going to be here and you know it will be a special night (especially knowing this will most likely be their last time on the Knit’s Tribeca stage). Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Been meaning to post photos and a recap from the September Anticon takeover Kniting Factory for a while now. Themselves (Dose & Jel), Alias, and Buck 65 all gave great performances. A whole lot of photos and show recap inside

Themselves, Alias, and Buck 65 all performed on 09.13.08 at Knitting Factory. Alias got it started and was tight as always. What makes Anticon artist shows so fun is the amount of movement during a show. These guys are producers at heart and happen to be nice with the mic too. Alias, just like Subtle. or Themselves would work the boards for a bit, hit the crowd with instrumentals, and then get on the mic and rip it.

Buck 65 was to follow with Themselves headlining the night and wrapping up the show. Dose and Jel never disappoint and no matter what name they may be performing under this time around, it’s exciting and fun to see what will go down. Besides performing much of the Themselves catalogue they broke into Subtle. work as well including an intense version of ‘Midas Gutz.’

Other than it being an on point show it was worth noting Anticon’s apparent beef with Murs. A lot of stories have been floating around as to where it all started, many saying with Murs talking trash about Anticon’s musical style but Dose and Buck definitely had some words for Murs. It’s funny when crews have beef when they can be connected through a mutual artist they both work with…aren’t Dose and Anticon boys with Slug from Deep Puddle Dynamics days and Slug is obviosuly close with Murs from Felt. Whatever. Good show overall and this December you can catch them all again if you weren’t around for this show.
