A Talk With Count Bass D

10.17.2007

Count Bass DDeadly Melody was lucky enough to have the chance to speak with Count Bass D. Since his 1993 debut with Pre-Life Crisis, Count has been a shining example of true musicianship in hip-hop. Mastering the MPC and various instruments along with a distinctive flow, Count’s ability to put these pieces all together creates something very special.

Purchase Count Bass D’s most recent release Act Your Waist Size or 2002 classic Dwight Spitz. Also be sure to visit Count’s myspace for complete info on upcoming shows, recordings and other news.

Deadly Melody: What’s good man?
Count Bass D: Not much here.

DM: Will you be coming up north any time soon?
CBD: No gigs up north right now either. This business is really changing and it’s sad.

DM: I thought the live shows was the business now…and ringtones. I know album sales aren’t it.
CBD: Live show? Promoters and booking agents in my sect are a joke for the most part. Ringtones?? Unless you’re Crankin’ That, you aren’t doing much and you already know about the mp3 blogs & Rapidshare, so…

DM: By the way, I loved your verse on Jneiro’s new album. Was he sitting on that verse for a while or were you?
CBD: Thanks, that’s from April 2005 actually. I just said 2006 … yea he was.

CBD: So what’s left?
DM: Nothing is left.

DM: So are you out? I hate to see someone so discouraged, but I guess that’s reality, especially when you have a family.
CBD: Reality is what I face. Discouragement is for the guys who are single with no children and feel they have problems. I’m never out, this game chose me, I haven’t wanted to do this since 1996.

DM: Right. So you’re working on the next album? Ever consider doing a producer driven album, Count ‘n friends style?
CBD: My next album is L7 and it will be out before the end of the year if I can. I don’t like working with outside people much anymore. It’s too much hassle.

DM: L7 is the name of it?
CBD: Yes. L7.

DM: Anything you would want people to know about L7, or just that its your new one?
CBD: Its just my new one. I’m working hard on it and I hope they like it. All I can do is hope.

DM: Nice, well thanks for your time…be good.
