‘The Last Play at Shea’ Concert

2.6.2008

Shea logoAs you probably are aware, 2008 will be the final season of baseball in Shea Stadium as CitiField is set to open the following year.  Since the summer stories have been circulating about a mystery concert titled ‘The Last Play at Shea’ which will mark the final musical performance at the stadium.  Shea Stadium has a rich history in music, most notably as the first stadium to ever host a concert when the Beatles kicked off their 1965 North American tour there.  Grand Funk Railroad also performed there several years later and included recordings from the show on their 1971 live album.  Most of the rumors have either Paul McCartney or Billy Joel playing the final show at Shea, but MetsBlog has reported that Thursday the mystery act will officially be announced.
