Satisfyin’ Soul Revue @ Union Hall
2.8.2008
With all this lame psudo-90’s hipster-hop trash blowing up around here, The Satisfyin’ Soul Revue at Union Hall on 02.16.08 is exactly what is necessary to counter this awful trend. While those groups continue to rap about fanny packs and Nintendo, the groups on the bill for the soul revue continue doing their part in bringing a classic soul revival. Headlining the show is Eli “Paperboy” Reed and The True Loves, a seven piece group that has a real Syl Johnson-ish sound along with the four soul singin’ women that make up The Sweet Divines. Both groups have that authentic Stax sound to them; if you’re feeling a lot of that Daptone material, chances are you will be digging this. Opening the show will be DJs Jennie Wasserman (who is also a member of The Sweet Divines) and The Honeydripper. Tickets for the show are just $10; doors at 8:00 PM.
